Ferguson’s ears should have been burning on Wednesday
evening as speakers at an information evening at Northcote
Town Hall attacked his perverse obsession with building a
nuclear waste dump on Indigenous land at Muckaty in the
Northern Territory. Local traditional owners Dianne Stokes
and Mark Chungaloo were there to counter his claim that
there had been full and informed consent to the building

ABC: Senate’s Muckaty nuclear dump report delayed
30 Apr 10: “A Senate committee report into the proposed
nuclear waste dump at Muckaty Station, north of Tennant
Creek, has been delayed. The committee was meant to present
the report today but Northern Territory Senator Trish
Crossin says it will not happen for at least another week
as the committee continues its investigation.”

Australian aborigines reject nuclear waste plant
29 Apr 10: “Aborigines from northern Australia rejected
government plans to build a plant for nuclear waste storage
in their territories. … Activist Dave Sweeney from the
Australian Conservation Foundation, declared there is a lot
at stake with radioactive waste that lasts thousands of
years and can cause cancer and genetic changes.”
